Skoda Set To Unveil India Bound Lauretta

Skoda Lauretta
Skoda, the Volkswagen owned Czech carmaker is all set to unveil its latest entry level sedan, the Lauretta at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Lauretta was previously named as the Rapid while it was under development. Skoda has said the car is not yet production ready and will be displayed as the Mission L Concept.

Skoda discontinued the Octavia line of model in India and a replacement was expected to be launched very soon. The Czech carmaker developed the new car considering the Indian conditions. It will be placed between the Fabia and the Octavia (Laura in India ) in Europe. It is expected to be priced lower than the Volkswagen Jetta, whose platform it has shared.

Skoda India has confirmed that the Mission L will be first sold in India and then move to Europe and China. This will be Skoda's first car model to be sold in India before any other market. There have been several sightings of the Lauretta in India but in a disguised form. Reports say the Lauretta will be a modified version of the Mission L concept that will be on display in Frankfurt.

Skoda India is expected to price the base model of the Lauretta at about Rs.7 lakhs. This will be competing with mid sized sedans such as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta and the Volkswagen Vento. The Lauretta will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine capable of churning out 104bhp. Skoda India will add safety features such as ABS, EBD, airbags and traction control as standard.
