Maruti Closes Plant After Violence Erupts

Maruti Suzuki Lockout
Maruti Suzuki's strike at Manesar took an ugly turn today after striking workers resorted to violence. Workers who were outside the plant reportedly attacked a group of supervisors who were about to enter the car plant. Five Supervisors are reported to have been injured.

Maruti Suzuki in its statement has said the striking workers want to spread fear among workers and had resorted to violence. It may be recalled that Maruti Suzuki chairman R C Bhargava had termed the labour dispute as a political issue.

Following the violence Maruti Suzuki has decided to close the plant on Friday. This will effectively mean the plant will close for the entire weekend until Monday further disrupting production. The plant closure is seen by analysts as a pressurising tactic by Maruti Suzuki management on the striking workers.

The Haryana labour minister has said he will visit Manesar to resolve the issue But there seems to be no signs of improvement as both the Maruti Suzuki management and workers continue to take a tough stand against each other.
