Tata Nano To Be Launched In Bangladesh

Bangladesh is the latest country to get the Nano after Sri Lanka and Nepal. Nitol Motors has been chosen as Tata Motors' exclusive importer of the Nano. Abdul Matlab of Nitol Motors said the price of the Nano was high due to the 132 per cent import tax on cars. He added the price could come down once sales volumes encourage Tata Motors to assemble the Nano in Bangladesh itself.
Tata Motors is expecting to sell about 3,000 Nanos in Bangladesh. Mr Matlab expressed confidence that the Nano will be a huge hit in the country as it has a great fuel economy of 25kmpl. Bangladesh has also witnessed a steep hike in petrol and diesel prices which has lead to increased demand for fuel efficient small cars.
The Tata Nano has not been able to live up to its expectations in terms of sales in India. Tata Motors has already started building other cars in its Sanand plant which was initially started to exclusively build the Nano. Tata Motors is now looking at international markets to boost sales of the Nano.
The Nano has faced several safety concerns and production issues. The fact that it is no longer the Rs.1 lakh car has made people shy away from it. Further the marketing of the Nano has not created an aspirational image for the car. This has meant the Nano has not been able to match initial expectations.
It remains to be seen how the Indian small car will fare in Bangladesh, a country not too far from Singur, the location where the Nano was initially planned to build.
