Skoda Begins Citigo Production In Europe

Speaking at the launch of production of the Citigo in the Bratislava plant, Skoda Auto chairman of board Winfried Vahland said: The Citi go is a central component of our growth strategy. With this automobile, we are starting our model offensive in Europe. It opens the important small car market for Skoda and perfectly applies our values in a city car: compact yet spacious, economical yet agile, attractive and equipped with many clever ideas. This car is the 'city clever"".
The Volkswagen Up which was first displayed at the Frankfurt auto show is the most likely car to hit Indian roads as Volkswagen has already designed a four door version. The Citigo is an important car for Skoda as it will help increase its sales volume and expand its model line-up.
There are not many differences between the Skoda Citigo and the Volkswagen Up. The Citigo has the signature grille and logo on the grille. There are some minor differences but the body panels remain the same. The headlights, tail lamps and alloy wheels are unique to the Citigo.
The Skoda Citigo will be powered by a one-litre engine that will send power to the front wheels through a manual gearbox. The Citigo might get a five speed automatic gearbox at a later date. The possibility of the Citigo entering the Indian market became stronger after Skoda Auto's global chief Winfried Vahland stated the Citigo could have a great market potential in India during the launch of the Rapid sedan. It remains to be seen if two similar Volkswagen Group cars will be launched here.
