Hyundai Union Trouble Triples As AIADMK Joins Fray

The AIADMK lead by J Jayalalithaa has come to power and its trade union wing Anna Thozhir Sangam Peravai (ATSP) wants to make its presence felt. The union has said it will soon start its own workers union at Hyundai soon.
R. Chinnasamy, state general secretary of ATSP is quoted to have said: “We are hoisting our union flag Wednesday evening outside Hyundai Motor India factory. Workers are not satisfied with the functioning of the two unions that exist there and have approached us to help them secure their rights."
Hyundai Motor India Employees Union (HMIEU) and theUnited Union of Hyundai Employees (UUHE) are the two existing unions at Hyundai. The workers have been expressing dissatisfaction at the way things are functioning at Hyundai"s plant. They had previously alleged work load had been increased in the past few months without taking the workers unions in to confidence.
Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) management has recognised just the UUHE as it considers this union to be apolitical. UUHe is also the union woith maximum number of workers under its wings. It is yet unclear how many workers will join the new Hyundai union started by AIADMK.

However with the AIADMK trade union beginning to show signs of troubling Hyundai Motors, it remains to be seen how the chief minister will move forward with regard to Hyundai"s unions.
