World's Largest Carmaker's Secret Plans!

Mr Slym said: “In smaller towns, the impact of slowdown is very little as people there don't rely much on car loans. With good monsoon in the hindsight and good signs this year too, people in rural India are much comfortable."
In its effort to boost its presence in India, General Motors India has decided to open 50 new showrooms in small towns and tier III cities. The carmaker's decision is also a result of sales from non metros increasing. Mr Slym said: “A couple of years back, we would have our 60% per sales from metros and 40% from non metros. But now the figures have been reversed. Now with even deeper penetration in smaller cities, we expect the sales contribution from smaller centre to go up to 70%."
The US car maker is now targeting to sell 1.4 lakh units this year from last year's sale of 1.1 lakh units. GM India is also aiming to grow at a rate that is two folds higher than the whole sector's growth. This is rather a brave target considering the car sector is seeing a slowdown in the past few months.
General Motors India is also looking at exporting its Chevrolet Beat diesel to Europe. The Beat is the only diesel car to have a one-litre engine. The engine has been specially developed for the Beat in India. With demand for diesel cars increasing consistently in Europe, exporting the Beat IS surely a fine business plan. However will General Motors be able to meet the high demand for the Beat with its current production capacity?
