Maruti Begins Recruitment; Pushes Swift Production

Maruti Suzuki has stopped building other models at Manesar to cater to the huge demand for the new Swift. The two week long strike has taken a huge toll on production but the carmaker's management has insisted that it would not compromise with workers who do not sign its good conduct bond.
Only 95 workers have signed the good conduct bond out of more than 1,800 workers. Some workers have already been dismissed from service for sabotaging work while some trainees have been removed. The announcement to begin fresh recruitment of workers is seen as a move to push workers to sign the bond and to restore production to full levels.
A Maruti Suzuki official while commenting on production levels said: “At this level of daily production, the company will be able to produce 12,500 units Swift in a month." The carmaker was rolling out 1,200 cars per day before the labour dispute began. The strike has severely affected the waiting period of the new Swift. Showrooms have stopped taking bookings to prevent a huge backlog. Waiting period for the Swift is now pegged at over six months.
Meanwhile Maruti Suzuki's striking workers have approached district administration officials to end the impasse with the management. About 1,500 workers took a protest march and submitted their request to government officials.
