Hyundai Eon Launched At Rs.2.69 Lakhs
YH Song who spearheaded the Eon project said the car was a result of four years of work He added the Eon's sporty design was a result of Hyundai interacting with the National Institute of Design as well as Indian Auto journalists.
The Hyundai Eon has been priced to challenge the Maruti Suzuki Alto. However we can say the Eon can also pose a serious challenge the Wagon R as well as the Chevrolet Spark. Hyundai's latest entry level car has no apparent compromise despite its low price. The interior is spacious and the luggage space is also high. The style quotient is also not to be missed. The Eon has the fluidic design philosophy that has already been seen in the fluidic Verna.
Hyundai is very confident about the eon. It has stated that any comparison with the Maruti Suzuki Alto will not be necessary as the Eon comes with several high end features that are not available in the Alto that has a ex showroom price of Rs.2.32 lakhs.
The Eon is powered by 815cc petrol engine that develops 56PS and 76.5 Nm of torque. Hyundai has claimed a fuel economy of 21.1 kmpl which is also impressive. The Alto on the other hand offers a fuel economy of 18kmpl.
Hyundai Motors India's Aravind Saxena while speaking about the Eon's expected performance expressed confidence it will cannibalize sales of competitors. He also stated the Santro, which is priced at Rs.2.80 lakhs will not be affected by the Eon. The carmaker has no immediate plans to stop the Santro.
