GM Launches Indian Beat As Spark in USA
The American Chevrolet Spark carries the same funky design of the Beat but has several new features to please the American car buyer. It is perhaps the best car to be launched by General Motors in USA considering the difficult economic conditions and the Spark's low price.
The new Chevrolet Spark will be available with a choice of either a 1-litre petrol engine, 1-litre diesel engine and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel engine is the same one that is found in the Beat diesel in India.
These engine in the Spark are vital for General Motors as it will help it reduce emissions as well as improve fuel economy. USA is also slowly becoming more sensitive to fuel prices and the Spark's low fuel economy will help boost the carmaker's image. General Motors until a few years ago was famous for building large gas guzzling cars.
The Chevrolet Spark gets redesigned front and rear bumpers. The grille is also much bigger than what we see in the Beat. The headlights and tail lights get some minor tweaks. The steering wheel has been restyled. The changes in the interior are not quite apparent. Most of the dashboard style has been retained.
General Motors can easily bring the new Spark to India as the facelifted Beat and see sales shoot up. The Beat which was launched a couple of years ago can be expected to get a face lift later next year and we already know how it will look.
