Ford Recalls 129k Cars due To Faulty Wheels

Ford Fusion Recall
Ford Motor, the second largest carmaker in the United States has recalled more than 129,000 cars after it found several cases of wheels coming off from cars. The recall will be effective on two cars, the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan. The Ford fusion and the Mercury Milan have been recalled after the NHTSA notified Ford about the possible safety issue.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the bolts in the wheel might fracture and over prolonged use break resulting in the wheel coming off from the car. Ford has said so far it had received six reports of the wheel coming off in either the Ford fusion of the Mercury Milan.

Ford which has conducted an investigation into this issue has stated the fault could be in the wheel mounting pads or rear brake disks being incorrectly built. The Ford fusion and the Mercury Milan cars to be recalled were built at Ford"s Hermosillo stamping and assembly plant in Mexico in April 2009 and from December 2009 through Nov. 13, 2010.

The Ford Fusion is a familiar name in India. Ford had sold the hatchback version of the Fusion here while it still sells the sedan version. The Fusion competes against familiar cars such as the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry. The second car to be recalled, the Mercury Milan is a car sold exclusively in the US. Ford has limited the sales of Mercury branded cars to North America.
