Hyundai Considering India Launch of i10 Diesel

Hyundai Motors is expected to launch the diesel variant of the i10 hatchback soon. According to speculations in the auto sector the Korean carmaker will bring in the i10 diesel before the end of this year. The i10 is Hyundai's highest selling model in India and a diesel engine will definitely add to the appeal of the hatchback, considering the increasing demand for diesel cars in India.

Several small cars with diesel engines have been launched in India to capitalise on the demand for diesel powered cars. The Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20 and the Ford Figo have all enjoyed market success due to the availability of a diesel engine.

Hyundai already sells the i10 diesel in the international market. It is equipped with a 1.1-litre turbocharged CRDi diesel engine which delivers 75bhp and 153Nm of torque. The diesel i10 gets a five speed manual gearbox.

Diesel cars usually cost Rs.80,000 to Rs1 lakh more expensive than their petrol counterparts. The Hyundai i10 is currently priced between Rs.3.90 lakhs and Rs.6.99 lakhs. It remains to be seen if Hyundai will launch the diesel i10 with the above mentioned price premium.
