Exports Increasing Despite Fall In Local Demand

Car exports from India has increased by 22.39 per cent in the period between April and August 2010 according to figures published by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. This is in sharp contrast to local car sales that has reduced considerably in the same period.

Exports have increased mainly due to Nissan Motor India increasing its export of the Micra hatchback. The Japanese carmaker exported 42,540 micra's to Europe between April and August. Nissan will soon begin selling the Sunny sedan in India. This new sedan might also be exported to other countries.

Ford, which also has a plant in Chennai along with Nissan has also contributed to the increase in exports. The American carmaker has tripled its exports from India. The Ford Figo hatchback has accounted for 10,118 units of Ford's total exports.

Hyundai which exports the i10 and i20 hatchbacks to Europe also posted a 1.77 per cent increase in exports to 1,07,572 units. It is India's biggest exporter of cars.
