BMW To Launch 1000cc Bikes In India

BMW is of the opinion that it has created sufficient brand image in the country to launch its superbikes. It will now be entering a sector that has been dominated by Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki. According to reports BMW might launch its superbikes early next year.
However, BMW is yet to set up a dealer network for its motorcycles. BMW's bikes are being imported from Germany by individual dealers but there are no official dealers yet. Hence to have any significant sales impact the German company has to open at least some showrooms. Another disadvantage that BMW will face will be that of price. Since all its bikes will be imported as CBUs, they will attract high tax and will be much more expensive than similarly powered superbikes from other manufacturers.
BMW is now selling 450cc and 500cc bikes in India. This is also a competitive sector with Hyosung and Harley Davidson already in India. BMW Motorrad, the name given for the two wheeler division of the company will also launch 800cc bikes after it establishes itself. BMW currently has the F800 R, BMW X3 and the G650gs in its lineup in India.
