Ashok Leyland, the truck manufacturer owned by the Hinduja Group has announced a one per cent increase in prices that will be effective from next month. The truck manufacturer's Managing Director Vinod K Dasari said: “We will increase prices by 1% across models in a month."

Mr Dasari did not attribute any reason for the price hike. Vehicle manufacturers have increased prices of their products in recent months due to increasing raw material costs. Steel prices along with rubber prices have increased considerably in recent moths adding pressure on vehicle manufacturers.

Commercial vehicle sales in India have shown consistent growth in recent months despite a slump in car sales. Ashok Leyland who is one of the major commercial vehicle manufacturers has also reported positive sales. Mr Dasari said the company was expecting a 5 to 7 per cent hike in sales this year.

Commercial vehicle sales increased 20 per cent in September. Truck sales have been increasing over the past few months. Truck sales are considered as an indicator of economic performance.
