Bridgestone's Airless Tyres That Do Not Puncture
Tyre punctures have been one of the major causes of accidents. Several high speed collisions have been reported to have occurred due to punctured tyres.
The first step towards this was tubeless tyres. These tyre though more reliable than regular tyres they are slightly more expensive and still can get a puncture. But here is a tyre that has eliminated the root cause of a puncture – Air. If you do not have air in your tyre, there is no possibility of a puncture.
Bridgestone has announced the development of non-pneumatic tyres (in simple terms airless tyres). These tyres will not get any punctures and can continue running even if there is slight damage to the exterior. These tyres are also very safe as they do not burst even at very high speeds. The tyres are still in their concept phase and will undergo further testing before reaching production phase.
Bridgestone has said these air less tyres do not require much maintenance. Further they have been built using eco friendly materials and are completely recyclable. The image shows multiple layers of rubber within the tyre that ensure there is no damage to the tyre. Bridgestone has not stated if these tyres can replace regular tyres now. But looking at the speed technology is becoming operational in regular products, the day of this air less tyre being used in vehicles is not to far.
