Vento Follows Ford Figo, Gets More Features

Volkswagen Vento
The mid size sedan market is getting hotter with several new arrivals that existing models have to compete with. The Volkswagen Vento which has emerged as a hot seller within one year of its launch is also facing the heat not just from competitors from outside but also from within as Volkswagen's sub brand Skoda is all set to launch the Rapid sedan on 16th November.

Hence to counter this Volkswagen has decided add three new features to the Vento to make it more attractive. The Vento Highline diesel variant will now be available with the following features:

  • Steering mounted audio controls
  • Park distance control
  • RCD 310 Music System with USB and 4 speakers as standard features

The Volkswagen Vento Highline diesel is currently sold with a price tag of 9.77 lakhs. It is slightly more expensive than its opponents such as the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City. It is a regular practice in the Volkswagen Group that VW branded cars are priced higher than similar cars in Skoda. This means the Rapid which is a Vento clone will be cheaper.

At this juncture, Volkswagen has been forced to add more features to the Vento and make it more up market than the Skoda Rapid. The difference in price will mean each of these cars will have separate target audience and a clash is avoided.

Volkswagen's decision to add more features to the Vento also reminds us of Ford's decision to add more features to its Figo hatchback. The Figo is due for a refresh only in 2014 and Ford decided to add more features.
