Mercedes Sells More Cars In 9 Months Than Last Yr

The carmaker is now expecting the luxury car market to grow at 20 to 30 per cent this year. Mercedes-Benz which was previously India's leading seller of luxury cars was toppled by BMW in 2009. It is now trying to wrest back its top position within two years. The current year's sales performance has given Mercedes-Benz India confidence that it will reach its target sooner than expected.
Speaking on this occasion Mercedes-Benz India CEO Peter Honegg said: “ We have sold 5,700 units during the period January till September against 5,600 units which we sold in entire year of 2010. With three months still left in 2011, we aim to sell 7,000 units by end of this year."
Mr Honegg also said the car5maker was planning to increase its dealer network to boost its presence in tier II cities too. He said: “Our strategy to increase our market share will be to open 10-15 outlets every year especially in tier-II and tier III cities which will give push up our sales." It is expecting to open 65 showrooms this year.
BMW and Audi, also from Germany are Benz's biggest competitors.
