EcoSport Compact SUV In Delhi Auto Expo
The Ford EcoSport is not a new name from Ford. An SUV with the same name is a huge success in Brazil and the American carmaker wants to launch its new version here in India too. The new Ford EcoSport will be sold in Brazil.
The Ford EcoSport will carry many of the Fiesta's technical titbits but will remain very different when it comes to looks. The design looks like as if the EcoSport is a proper soft roader but the fact is the EcoSport is a compact SUV which is shorter than four metres. This means the compact SUV will attract lesser excise duty making it a cheaper option to buy.
Despite its small size, the Ford EcoSport compact SUV has all the necessary features of an SUV such as an upright stance, high ground clearance, high bonnet and a boxy design. The air intakes in the front and the point front nose make the EcoSport look quite aggressive. The rear design is also visually pleasing with the c pillar missing giving the roof a floating look.
The EcoSport will be powered by a diesel engine that we have already seen in the Fiesta. But the power output might be increased a but to suit the heavier SUV body. The Ford fiesta has a 1.5-litre DV5 engine that generates 90bhp. Do not expect a petrol engine for the EcoSport soon as ford will have to fit just a 1.2-litre engine as per the current regulations and the engine will not be able to generate the required amount of power.
The most important factor for the Ford EcoSport's success will be its price and a price tag anywhere between Rs.7 lakhs and 9 lakhs will make it affordable. But if ford does the same mistake of overpricing the compact SUV as it did with the new Fiesta, it will have to face the same sales struggle yet again. The only consolation is that it will not have too many competitors in the sector. But who knows, more carmaker might join in the race in the near future.
