New San Storm Coming Your Way

Convertible cars are a special breed of cars. They are designed, engineered and built with the sole objective of allowing the driver to enjoy the sun and wind. Convertibles have been loved by European and Americans the most bit they do not have found favour in India. However we cannot say we do not have our own convertible car.

San Motors a Goa based car builder is possibly the only local manufacturer of a convertible. San Motors is a small company that builds abou two to three cars per month. The only model in its line up is the San Storm – an appropriate name for a car that lets wind sail past your face. The San Storm has been in India since quite some time but it was not noticed just because of its small number.

The San Storm is as we said earlier a very rare car. People who have driven it say the ride is just about right. The Storm is a two seater convertible with a soft top roof. It is priced at just under Rs.6 lakhs and is currently powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine sourced from Renault.

The latest news about the San Storm is that it will get more powerful. Thanks to a slightly larger 1.3 petrol engine again sourced from Renault. The body panels of this car will be made in Bangalore while the final assembly will be completed in Goa.

Currently being sold in Goa only, the San Storm is set to become more visible as San Motors intends to open more showrooms across the country. This is definitely good news for some of us who find imported convertibles too expensive to buy.
