Domestic Car Sales Down 2%; Bikes Gain 20%

The festive season has not appeared to have reversed declining car sales in September. Several major carmakers were hoping the festive season would help then recover sales that have declined steadily in the past few months. Even the tactic of launching new cars appears to have failed.
The new cars launched in September include The Mahindra XUV 500, Honda Brio, Nissan Sunny, Rio. Mahindra Bolero, Renault Koleos, Toyota Etios Diesel and Toyota Etios Liva Diesel. Although all these models did manage to attract customers, their counterparts in their line-up were not able to generate sales.
Two wheeler sales continued their positive growth in September too with close to 20 per cent increase. SIAM data reveals 12,33,283 units were sold in September 2011 as against the 9,92,383 units sold ion September 2010.
Commercial vehicles also showed incredible sales figures. Sales rose 18.04 per cent to 70,634 units from previous September's 59,836 units. Total vehicle sales saw a growth of 19.39 per cent with 15,71,342 unit sales.
