Bosch Closes Bangalore Plant After Strike

Bosch Ltd, the international auto components manufacturer has announced that it would close its plant in Bangalore following a prolonged strike by its workers. It is filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company has said the tool down strike by workers on September 28th had forced it to make this decision.

The workers at Bosch went on a flash strike on 28th September and have not returned to work. The management has said it had not received any prior notice on the strike. In its statement Bosch has said: “ In view of the Union's illegal and unjustified strike, the management of the company has decided to shut down plant operations for workmen wef (with effect from) September 29, 2011."

The strike at Bosch started after workers objected to outsourcing of some none core products according to the company. It has added it had spoken to unions and workers before it took this decision. Bosch has also said it would try every possible means to convince the workers and resume normal production in Bangalore.

Bosch employs about 2,500 workers in Bangalore and about 40 people lost their jobs due to the outsourcing of production. The auto components manufacturer has been hit by low car sales and does not expect any improvement in the near future.

Strikes in auto related firms are increasing in recent months. Maruti Suzuki has suffered the most due to strikes. General Motors also faced strikes at its plant in Rajastan earlier this year. Tyre manufacturer MRF was also forced to close its plant for some days due to a strike.
