Audi Set To Launch 100kmpl 2012 A3

Audi, the German premium carmaker has unveiled the A3 sedan which was first displayed at the Shanghai auto show. The 2012 Audi A3 is a small sedan powered by a diesel engine. It has an engine technology that will improve the car's mileage to mind blowing levels.
The Audi A3 is now equipped with cylinder deactivation technology that switches of two of the four cylinders of the diesel engine when there is low load on the car. This technology was previously available only in premium car models which had a far greater fuel consumption rate than the A3.
Audi has claimed the cylinder deactivation technology will help the A3 deliver a mileage of 100kmpl when it is driven at a constant speed of 50kmph. The 1.4-litre diesel engine can churn out a maximum power of 138bhp. Audi is expected to launch the new A3 in Europe and America early next year. However there are reports that the new A3 could find its way to India too.
With Audi planning to launch a natural gas engine as well as a three cylinder engine for the A3, it is yet unclear which model will reach India. Further apart from the sedan variant, the A3 will also be available in four other variants such as 4-door sedan, 5-door sportback along with two 3-door cabriolets.
Audi India has not made any statement on the A3's launch in India.
