Chevrolet To Unleash Swift Challenger Sail
General Motors which so far was not competing the compact car segment is planning to launch a car that it has developed in China. The new car named as the Chevrolet Sail is of the same size as the Swift and might be placed above GM's best selling model – Beat. The Chevrolet Sail has been designed by GM's Chinese division and is already on sale there.
Reports say the Sail will be powered either by a 1.2-litre petrol engine or a more powerful 1.4-litre petrol engine. There has been no talk of adding a diesel engine to the Sail yet, But with demand for diesel cars far exceeding demand for petrol cars, GM might as well add a 1.3-litre diesel engine that it can has jointly developed with Fiat.
The Chevrolet Sail needs to be a proper performer to have an impact in the market which is already crowded by several models. It is set to replace the Aveo which has barely managed lukewarm sales. Even the updated Aveo UVA also did not manage to become a success.
The Sail will come with a five speed manual gearbox and is expected to be more efficient than the Aveo. The car's pricing details are yet to be confirmed. GM India is very tight lipped about the details of the Sail's India plans.
