Renault To Unveil New Compact Car At Grand Prix

Renault Twingo _ USed For Represenation Purpose Only
The compact hatchback sector is getting hotter with more new models being launched in India. Renault Nissan is joining the list of carmakers entering this segment. Carlos Ghosn, the CEO of both these carmakers will be visiting this month and he is expected to interact with important partner companies who will deliver parts for the new car.

Carlos Ghosn is expected to unveil a concept version of the compact car at the 2011 Indian Formula One Grand Prix in Delhi. The new car is expected to take on market leader Maruti Suzuki's refreshed hatchback Swift. The new Renault will be the French carmaker's flagship model that is expected to shoulder of delivering sales volumes. The production version is expected to be launched during this January's Delhi Auto Expo.

Reports say the French carmaker will start receiving bookings for the new car immediately after its launch,. This will be Renault's first volume car after the Logan which was built under a joint venture with Mahindra. Renault has so far had a premium car image with its premium SUV Koleos and the Fluence sedan. The Duster will probably be the mid level priced car but that is an SUV and is yet to make an entry in India.

Renault is hoping the unveiling of the concept at the Indian Grand Prix will create enough buzz around the new compact car. The importance of India for Renault is being highlighted by the fact that the event at the Grand Prix will be a global launch. The car has not been shown anywhere else and details about its name will be made available.

The only information that we have is that it will be built on the same platform on which Nissan builds its Micra and Sunny. This will definitely help keep the cost of the car low. If Renault has to make a big impact on the Indian car market, it has to keep the price of its new compact car low yet retain as many features as possible.
