Ford Unveils Fiesta AT With Dual Clutch Automatic

Ford Fiesta AT
The Ford Fiesta is probably the American carmaker's most ambitious sedan in recent times. It is the first model to be built on its global platform. The latest news from Ford is that it has launched the Fiesta AT, India's first mid sized sedan with a dual clutch automatic transmission.

The Ford Fiesta was unveiled in India with manual gearboxes for both the petrol and diesel engines. The new car gets a new gear automatic gearbox. This gear box is not your regular automatic gearbox that you have already seen in cars such as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna or the Maruti Suzuki SX4. Ford has installed a 'Powershift' six-speed dual clutch transmission in the Fiesta.

The Fiesta's dual-clutch automatic transmission ensures smooth and powerful shifts without any loss of power between gear changes. The regular automatic transmission witness a slight loss of power when shifting gears that results in decreased pick up and high fuel consumption. But the dual clutch six speed transmission solves both these problems.

Ford must be credited for bringing the dual clutch transmission to the mid level sedan segment for the first time. This gear box was usually found only in high end models such as the Skoda Laura. The only complaint is that the six speed dual clutch gearbox will be available only with the 1.5-litre petrol engine. Considering the huge demand for diesel cars, Ford should have brought the dual clutch auto to both variants.
