Toyota To Hire 1,500 Next Year

Japanese carmaker Toyota has said it would be hiring 1,500 people later next year. The carmaker in its statement has said the recruitment was part of its production expansion plans in India.

Toyota which operates in India through a joint venture with Kirloskar has a car production plant in Bangalore, Karnataka. Toyota Kirloskar intends to expand production by one lakh units per year. It has already invested Rs.1,650 crores in its auto parts venture.

Shekar Viswanathan, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) deputy managing director (commercial): “We will be hiring about 1,500 permanent employees by 2012 to meet our expansion demand. In addition to this, we will hire some contract workers also."

Toyota has two plants in Bangalore in which 4,500 people are employed. The carmaker said the 1,500 new jobs created by its expansion will be across all disciplines.

Toyota had earlier announced plans to set up an engine plant and expand its transmissions capacity at a combined investment of Rs.500 crore to cater to demand for the Etios and Etios Liva. The carmaker will soon launch the diesel versions of the Etios and the Etios Liva.
