Maruti To Move Swift Production To Gurgaon

Maruti Suzuki has one plant each in Gurgaon and Manesar. The Manesar plant has had several production issues in the recent past. Most of the plant's 2,000 workers have abstained from work after Maruti Suzuki's management asked them to sign a good conduct bond.
The new Swift which was launched earlier last month is being built entirely at Manesar. Bookings have crossed more than 90,000 units and the current production levels has already pushed the waiting period of the Swift to over eight months. If the waiting period increases further, buyers who had booked the Swift might cancel their orders.
To resolve this issue some parts of the new Swift will be transported to Gurgaon and assembled.. It is yet unclear when the carmaker will begin producing the Swift in Gurgaon. The old swift was previously built at Gurgaon. Hence the transfer of the New Swift's production could be easier.
Another reason for Maruti Suzuki to shift some of the new Swift's production to Gurgaon was the high automation at Manesar's second production unit. Output at the second plant is 30 40 percent higher than the production in the first plant. The additional production will be routed to Gurgaon. The second plant at Manesar was expected to be commissioned by next month but it was advanced to handle the impasse in production.
