Reva To Launch electric Car Based On Mahindra Car
Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicle Chief of Technology and Strategy Chetan Maini has said: “In the next 18 months, we will launch an M & M product with electric vehicle technology in India." Reva's electric car technology is already being used in the Mahindra vehicles and is being tested according to Mr Maini. However he has not specified which Mahindra vehicles is being tested.
Mahindra had earlier announced plans to launch an hybrid version of its flagship Scorpio and then introduce the electric system in other products gradually.
Reva, the electric car company that was acquired by Mahindra will soon launch the Reva NXR electric small car later next year. It is also developing a new model that has been named as the NXD. It is highly unlikely that Mahindra would build a fully electric SUV as its range and battery life will be very low. The other possibility is that Reva used the platform of the Verito or a new small car's platform that is still under development.
The news from Reva is a positive step towards introducing more electric cars in India. While Reva was trying to bring in electric cars at a small level, its association with Mahindra has added scale to its efforts.
Reva is now working on expanding its production capacity from the current 3,000 units to more than 30,000 units. The Reva NXR will most likely be displayed at next year's Delhi Auto Expo.
