Hyundai-Kia, Intel To Develop Entertainment System

In Car Entertainment
Korean carmaker Hyundai and Kia have signed a MOU with computer hardware giant Intel to jointly develop an advanced vehicle infotainment system. The MOU was signed at Seoul yesterday. The in car entertainment system the carmakers intend to develop will have location based social network services and will allow users to receive entertainment content.

According the MOU between Intel and Hyundai, Intel will develop the software, applications and the platform for the system while Hyundai and Kia will be using it in the cars they build.

Hyundai Motors vice chairman Yang Woong-chul while speaking about the deal said: “The MOU aims to fuel growth of next generation IT products for vehicles that can meet growing consumer requirements for both driving related information and entertainment contents."

Hyundai and Kia have grown tremendously in the past decade and have emerged as the world's fifth largest carmaker in terms of sales. While there has been a slight improvement in terms of their image as a builder of reliable cars, the Korean carmakers are now aiming to improve their image further by adding more user friendly options and accessories.

The new in car entertainment system that will emerge from the MOU between Hyundai, Kia and Intel will most likely be launched in South Korea, US and Europe before it trickles down to other low volume markets. It will take some time for these systems to enter the Indian scene.
