Maruti Builds 150 Cars In Manesar; Strike Continue

Car Production
Maruti Suzuki has built 150 cars at its Manesar plant on Friday, Sep 02 despite continued strike by its workers. The carmaker had asked its workers to sign a good conduct bond last Monday, 29, Aug. With most workers refusing to sign the bond, the carmaker then recruited 125 ITI trainees and brought in engineers and supervisors from its Gurgaon plant to resume production.

Maruti Suzuki now has about 800 workers involved in production in Manesar. A Maruti Suzuki official has revealed the company would continue to scout for more trained workers in the coming days to ramp up production.

Maruti Suzuki has produced 125 cars on Thursday. Production at this rate equates to just over ten per cent of regular work at Manesar. The plant can produce 1,200 units of the Swift, A-Star and SX4 per day when at full capacity. It has been estimated that Maruti Suzuki has suffered a production loss of more than 5,000 units since the strike began on 29th.

The carmaker's management is keen to take strict action against erring workers after it found instances of sabotage in production. Workers on the other hand have denied the management's accusations.

With the stand-off continuing without much breakthrough in terms of negotiations between the management and the workers, this might turn out to be longer than the 13 day strike that crippled production June.
