Commercial vehicles are considered to be a clear indicator of economic progress. Car sales on the other hand, is an indicator of general consumer sentiment. We have been reporting about car sales declining over the past three months and there has been no report of a decline in commercial vehicle sales.

Following the trend is Ashok Leyland"s sales report for the month of November. The Hinduja Group owned truck manufacturer has posted an impressive 53 per cent hike in its sales during November 2011. The company has said it sold 7,878 vehicles during this period while it had sold 5,137 units in November 2010.

Ashok Leyland"s trucks have been selling in India as well as in several overseas markets. The company has said its domestic sales rose 66.72 per cent to 6,477 units and exports rose 11.9 per cent to 1,401 units.

Commercial vehicle sales are expected to increase during December too. With the central government mulling over increasing taxes on diesel vehicles in the 2011-12 budget, buyers want to pay less for a truck by advancing purchases.
