Nissan Posts 1384 Sales for August

Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today announced domestic sales of 1384 units. for the month of August 2011 compared to 1249 units in August 2010. The Nissan Micra compact hatchback continues to drive the carmaker's sales in India.

The Micra is Nissan's first model to be produced at the carmaker's Chennai plant. Nissan said it sold 1345 units in August 2011 compared to 1182 units in August 2010. The X-TRAIL lifestyle SUV, Teana sedan and iconic 370Z sports car comprised the remaining sales.

NMIPL Managing Director & CEO, Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "We have just celebrated the 100,000th Micra engine produced in Chennai, and the model shows continuous increase in its popularity as we expand our dealership network. The current slower market growth is impacting the overall industry, but Nissan is expecting a fast sales boost with the launch of the much awaited Nissan Sunny".

Nissan has begun production of the Sunny sedan in Chennai and the new car expected to reach markets by the end of this month.
