Skoda Set To Launch Rapid On Nov 16

The Skoda Rapid is the new car that will replace the Octavia and will be the Czech carmaker's entry level sedan. There were reports that a Fabia sedan could be launched in India but Skoda surprised every one by developing an all new model.
Skoda has revealed the power train options to be made available with the Rapid. It will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine and a 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine. In a first for Skoda, these engines will be paired with only an automatic gearbox and a manual will not be available.
The Octavia can be credited with creating a benchmark for sedans in India. However its slot was kept empty for more than a year after its production was stopped. The Rapid, developed as the Vision D cncept and was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor show. The car was expected to be named as the Lauretta but Skoda retained the original Rapid name.
The Skoda Rapid is not a new name. In fact the previous Rapid had impressed Europe with its strong and sturdy performance. The new Rapid is being built at Volkswagen's plant in Chakan, Maharashtra since October 10th. It is expected to be priced between Rs.7 lakhs and Rs.10 lakhs.
