Volkswagen India Might Enter Into Small Car Segment Soon !
German auto major Volkswagen on Sunday said it is thinking deeply to introduce a small car in India to snatch a considerable pie from the fast growing small car market of the country where almost 2 million small cars are sold every year. According to Kurt Rippholz, Volkswagen Group's India Communication Head, the company is planning for a small car, smaller even than Polo. But, the company has not come to any conclusions as of now.
Volkswagen Group in India started with the Skoda cars like Octavia, Laura, Fabia and Superb. Later, Volkswagen entered with its cars directly including the Jetta, Passat, the new Polo recently. Its Chakan plant has the production capacity of 110000 units including the Skoda vehicles. The company has invested 3500 crores in this plant.
India stands second to China with regard to the growing small car market. Volkswagen is assessing the lucrative market and will bring out a practical compact car soon. With increasing foreign car makers rolling out impressive cars in India, the India car makers face stiff competition, but the Indian people now have more power to choose the cars that suit their tastes.
