Volkswagen Will Be Helped By Maruti Suzuki
Volkswagen, the German auto giant, will likely get help from the small car expert Maruti Suzuki for the developing less than Rs. 4 lakh small car by the former. Volkswagen, European auto giant, owns a 19 percent stake in Hamamatsu, Japan-based Suzuki. The majority stakes of Maruti Suzuki of India belongs to Suzuki of Japan.
According to sources, Maruti will get expertise for manufacturing the diesel engines from Volkswagen or may directly source the engines from the Wolfsburg, a Germany-based car maker. Suzuki's chairman, Osamu Suzuki is scheduled to visit our country in the later half of September and will discuss on the various ways to cooperate with VW officials. Volkswagen and Maruti Suzuki will make at least three major announcements about the synergies and product development, contract manufacturing and other collaborations as per speculations.
