Toyota May Develop A Small Car For Asian Market

By Denise Baptiste

Japan's Chunichi Shimbun newspaper reported that Toyota is developing a low cost mass car in order to grab market share in fast growing markets like South East Asia and China.

Toyota being the world's biggest car maker is not having major market share in countries like Brazil, India and other emerging markets and its sales growth is not as much as the Hyundai or Volkswagen.

Toyota has huge plans for India and will launch its Etios by December 2010. With the development of new car, Toyoto is raising the expectations of car buyers in the Asian region if Toyota develops a new low cost car.

The compact car to be developed by Toyota may be based on its Vios and Vitz/Yaris subcompact models, and the Japanese giant is focusing to reduce the production costs by 30-40 per cent by localisation of car parts. But Toyota is yet to confirm on this news.
