Toyota Etios-12,000 Advance bookings in India
The formal launch of Etios from Toyota is still on the cards as the production has been slated for December 20. However the Toyota Etios advance bookings have reached 12000 in India.
Toyota has specifically designed this Toyota Etios for the exclusive Indian market in a bid to raise its market share in the domestic market. The car"s chief engineer exclaimed the stupendous response, which he said exceeded his expectation. He said the orders came much before the car could be displayed in the showrooms. The company, known for its quality build up now hopes to attain the target, 70000 annual units. Based on this response, the company is targeting to double its sale volume - 145000 units- of which Toyota Etios might contribute 50%. The assembling of this car will be on deriving engines and transmissions from its apex unit and will be replaced once they are manufactured locally in another two years. Till then plans for exporting the sedan to potential export markets will go on.
Toyota is another global player to enter into the compact car segment where Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor are the key players. Tata"s Nano is also in the fray. Toyota offers Etios standard model for Rs496000 which is higher than other strong contenders in the segment. The chief engineer, who has made more than 50 trips to India in the last 4 years, said Toyota"s presence in the small car segment is based on the sale volume of this Toyota Etios only. He said the customers are well aware of the quality as evidenced from its higher-end cars like Corolla.
With Toyota Etios' launch planned in April 2011, Toyota"s net sale volume in India stands at 55000 units in last FY with 2.4% market share.
