Toyota Denies Plans To Ramp Up Production

If you got to buy a Toyota Fortuner, wait for atleast seven months to get your SUV. This is a minimum waiting period. For getting Toyota Innova, you have to wait for atleast one month. The company has umpteen number of reasons for preventing the factory entering into a third shift operation. Reasons are the readiness of vendors, logistics and infrastructure constraints.
Other practical issues like providing food, bus transport, added security and new employment for temporary period, all of which must be provided at midnight and that too, only up to clearing the backlog. Reasons comes in from the vendors, who has to supply more parts for a third shift as Toyota follows "just-in-time" policy which stands as a hurdle for increasing the production.
According to Toyota Kirloskar Deputy Managing Director, Mr Shekar Viswanathan, there are lot of chances for Toyota to produce its existing models in the new plant, which is getting ready to produce Etios model. The current Toyota plant in India has the capacity to produce up to 75000 vehicles per annum, while the new plant has the capacity to manufacture 2 lakh cars per annum in full swing.
The Deputy MD stated that its only because of the constraints faced in the current plant, that Toyota is unable to clear the backlog of car deliveries and it doesn't mean that the company is ready to lose its customers to other competitiors. But he is confident that the percentage of people who decide competitors' car just because of waiting period alone is very small and most of the customers are ready to wait for a longer period because its Toyota.
Mr. Viswanathan has clearly indicated that none of the Toyota Fortuners have been recalled for brake issues. He said that a few customers felt that their SUV's braking was inadequate and for them, the company has given a free new brake kit and those who accepted the offer were satisfied with it.
