Tata Nano In Open Markets

By Suparna Chakaraborthy

After Kerala, Tata has come forward to sell its cheapest car Nano through open market in the states of UP, West Bengal, Maharastra, and Karnataka. This will enable customers who want to own Nano to drive straight from the showrooms after a free test drive from such dealers, said the company statement.

The company has eased the purchase under a tie-up with 25 banks for financial assistance at low interest rates. Tata is delivering the compact car for the selected 1.55 lakh customers chosen from the bookings and the delivery for 1 lakh customers will be over by this year end. Due to rise in the prices of input materials, Tata was forced to increase its price by 3-4 percent making a hike by Rs 3700 - Rs 6894 on different variants.

This rise is not applicable for the bookings made earlier and such customers will pay the initial price. Nano comes from Tata"s Sanand plant which has the capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year. This set up came after a tussle over setting up of plant at Singur in West Bengal was deferred by political crisis.
