Tata Motors Plans To Assemble JLR Cars In India
Land Rover's Freelander 2 model is the lowest priced SUV in the range and costs Rs. 33.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. If Tata Motors assemble this SUV in the country, the cumulative duties will be reduced from 110% to 50% thereby reducing the cost at least by a couple of lakh rupees.
According to sources, Tata Motors is planning to assemble the Freelander 2 in India. Freelander 2 is currently the lowest-priced Land Rover model in India and carries an ex-showroom tag of Rs 33.5 lakh in Delhi. But as of now, there is no official info backing up this factor. Tata Motors is yet to decide on how far can the customers can get benefit out of assembling the Freelander.
Other models that the company sells under Land Rover brand are 'Discovery 4' and 'Range Rover', though these may not be assembled immediately. With the assembling plans almost finalised, Tata Motors hopes the assembling will ensure to satisfy the local demand of these luxury vehicles. On the other hand, JLR is also looking for an assembly plant in China, another promising luxury car market.
JLR registered healthy growth in sales of its luxury cars throughout the world. India is registering an increase in the sales of luxury cars too. Competition is spicing up with the new launches of key players like BMW, Benz and JLR.
