Tata Motors Designing Double Trailer Trucks
In a bid to enthrall the global auto market, Tata Motors is designing double-trailer trucks under its Prima range. The company focuses this model during the next year of operations and the commercial sale would come off during the end of the fiscal, said its executive. The need to focus on the overseas market, he said, was to compensate the dull response in the domestic market. Yet he could not disclose the exact capacity of the truck. Tata Motors launched its Prima range of trucks this May meant for global markets with the engines for the company"s medium and heavy commercial vehicles being manufactured at Jamshedpur facility.
Tata Motors operates its engine and transmission making under the JV with Cummins of the US. To enhance its sale of trucks in the global market, the company is on the verge of setting up fuel-efficient engines for the light commercial vehicles on 3 and 5 lit capacities. These new engines may be meant for new vehicles rolling down on new brandings. Though the exact timing of the delivery was not known, Cummins has been apprised of the situation to enhance the capacity of such engines. Tata Motors took this move after its sale of LCVs in November peaked to 79959 units making a rise by 6% against 40244 units in the corresponding period of 2009.
