By By: Vicky.in

The first quarter sales chart are set afire by Tata Motors as it has overtaken Hyundai and now ranks No.2 in the passenger car segment. From the SIAM reports, in the month of April toJune , Tata Motors sales grew by 49% to 83,739 units, while Hyundai's sales growth was 21 per cent to 83,018 units. The difference is 721 cars. Whereas in 2009-2010 , Hyundai sold 3.14 lakh and Tata sold 2.85 lakh units.

Tata Motors, according to many experts, will continue to retain its second position as the Nano car production has began and is undergoing the manufacturing in full swing.

Tata's hatchback, the Indica Vista as well as the sedan, Indigo Manza are witnessing increase in sales. Growth production at Sanand plant will be achieved in phases every month, but the company cannot quantify how much fresh capacity will be added. While in May, 3550 Nano cars were handed over to customers, in June, 7704, almost double the cars were delivered. This will continue to increase in the coming months.

Tata Motors, apart from being a leader in passenger cars, is also leading the commercial vehicle segment, particularly the Ace Platform, with sales growth of 38 per cent in 2009-2010 summing up to 3.22 lakh units. And after the acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover from Ford, Tata Motors is ensuring that no stone is left unturn in all the segments of auto industry. Totalling the entire vehicle manufacturing, Tata Motors have reported a 31% growth by selling 6.08 lakh units in 2009-2010.

Hyundai's R&D is busy in making a car under the Santro so as to fill the Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh price segment. Hyundai's I10 and Santro, continue to sell in large numbers. Until the small car from Hyundai comes, there may not be much change in the sales charts.
