Tata Changes Gear For Marketing Nano

By Denise Baptiste

The world"s cheapest car Nano has at last started to please the customers who have booked the cars, almost 50K customers have got their car during the past one year. In addition those who has still been offered to wait for the delivery were given priority.

There had been dissatisfaction among the customers who had booked for the car regarding the delay in delivery and the premium of Rs25000 was the talk of the town in all major cities.

Tata Motors, in the meanwhile, started full swing action in its Sanand plant for expediting the delivery.

Happy news from the camp of Tata Motors is that the initial drivers of Nano can now enjoy free 15 day trial drive before buying it. This privilege is considered as an added advantage which even the first slot of people who had booked the cars could not get. However, the lack of such numbers of cars was the main reason at that time.

Tata"s current motive is to grab new customers to its fold and this free 15 day trial drive may sound a good deed from the customers" point of view.

With this Tata plans to kick off its formal marketing of Nanos in the retail showrooms. In the event of Nano making its top gear in action there will be a shake in the market share of Maruti by next two years, whose share may slide over to Nano, the industry observers feel.

By 2012, Tata may pull nearly 7 percent growth in small car segment, says a report from Nomura Financial Advisory and Securities.
