JLR and Tata Motors Together Making A Luxury Car
"DR0", as the yet to be revealed concept car is known internally, is in its initial stages. Tata motors have got five stages of production for this car, where DR5 will be the final output car.
Combining the synergies of both the companies, the new car will have underpinnings of Tata motors. The India's largest vehicle maker, Tata Motors is experienced in requirement understanding and cost competency while the luxury brand, JLR is well versed in product innovation and development of new vehicles. Therefore, the car's platform will be designed in India and the vital technology inputs including the interior designs will be contributed from the R&D of JLR.
The new car will be priced in the Rs. 20- Rs. 30 lakh range with a Tata badge. But this car is not a competition to JLR ranges because those cars cost more than 50 lakh rupees.
The two companies are confident on the ample scope of luxury car market in developing nations like India and China. JLR in India has set foot in Indian luxury market and is enjoying a significant success after opening its purchasing offices in the two countries. JLR is further looking out at strategic low-cost sourcing of manufacturing materials.
Tata Motors focus on sharing the capabilities with JLR rather than the components and now, the two auto makers are in the urge of assembling JLR cars in India, for which the Indian company is likely to initiate this process with the assembling of LandRover SUVs first as pilot production. Due to a promising demand in China, JLR is also finding possibilities to set up assembly lines in China.
