Tata Motors To Increase Ace's Production Pace In The LCV Segment

By Sriram Hebbar

Owing to the rising demands of Tata Motors hit product Ace Mini truck, the company is likely to increase the production capacity of Ace.

Tata Motors is studying capacity needs and has plans to increase the Tata Ace Family. But there is no official information regarding the exact period of the company's endeavour to set up either a new plant or increase the capacity at the existing plant.

Tata Ace was launched in May 2005 under the sub 3.5 tonne category. It is powered by a 800 cc diesel engine and can carry a sub-one tonne payload. Ace is sold in four different variants. During the first year of its launch, the company sold 30000 units only. But as of the recent 2009-2010, out of the 1.6 lakh units sold in Tata Ace category, 1.1 lakh units were the Goods carrier variant. Tata Ace is also sold in Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Tata Ace has its straight rival Mahindra Maxximo and also another new product Mahindra Gio. After the launch of these two mini-trucks, Ace did lose some market share in the LCV segment. But only Tata Ace has the advantage of having a passenger carrier option, where it can be used as a modern urban taxi. All the three LCVs are under the sub one tonne category and with them, this segment has expanded further, delighting the customers with more value for money vehicles!
