Premium Cars Will Now Attract More Buyers
Hyundai, BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover and many other car makers will follow this approach and reduce the price of their cars, attracting more customers. For instance, if through CBU, the price of a luxury vehicle is above Rs. 40 lakh, using CKD, the price of the same luxury vehicle will substantially get reduced to Rs. 30 lakh.
It was the Japanese auto giant Toyota which kick started its idea of bringing in the Fortuner to Indian as a CKD unit, and after assembling here, deliver the cars to the customers. The Fortuner has brought lots of fortune to the company as, Fortuner dominates the premium SUV market holding 75 percent of this segment. According to Sandeep Singh, Deputy MD of Toyota Kirloskar, Fortuner sales have gone much beyond Toyota's expectations and its success has forced the company to look at new products in the segment.
BMW, the leading German luxury brand in India is all set to launch its X1, the new car which will make it the cheapest German luxury car brand. SUVs like Volkswagen Tiguan, Renault Koleos, Audi Q3 and LandRover Freelander 2are the likely products to get assembled by their manufacturers in India. Audi, already started assembling Q5 last week and also eyeing to assemble Q3 in its Maharshtra plant. Audi Q3 will take on BMW X1 both of which are priced in between Rs 25 lakh to Rs. 28 lakh.
Audi is aiming to become the No1. luxury car brand in India and is on the urge to expand its business by providing more products. Benz and BMW are also strengthening their portfolio.
