Piaggio Car, A Threat To Tata Nano

The Indian car market with its beeline array of all types of cars, is forcing the global players to step into the sector. After the successful stint of Tata"s Nano compact car and subsequent arrivals of many top brass world car makers, now is the occasion for the Italian car maker Piaggio. This will be a 3-seater compact car on the lines of the makes from GM and Hyundai, while there is a proposal from the French car maker Renu to offer a small car in association with the Indian two wheeler giant Bajaj. Italian company Piaggio who has segments for decades with its scooters and the later additions of a small car NT3. This is a concept car displayed at the Milan Bike Show exclusively targeted to the markets of South East Asia, India and Vietnam.

Piaggio MD for Indian wing said that the NT3 car is to be deemed as the next Ape and will get the refining mode once it gets settled in these markets. The cost too will be competitive and will be based on the operating and maintenance costs around Rs1.5 lakh, he added. The company revealed that the concept car NT3 will be commercially produced in another three years.

The Piaggio car will be in the design of 2.4 m in length to be powered by a 200cc / 300cc engine with the output of 60km/hr speed / 80km/hr speed. There will be an optional electric version in coming years, he said further. Piaggio car will ease the traffic load in the roads of these countries at the same time yielding low consumption of fuel and delivering less pollution with the mileage of 30km/lit.

In the Indian three wheeler segment the company is on the top slot with its Ace being the market leader.
