Six New Models From GM In Two Years
The company"s VP for sales and marketing said that the company is optimistic over the growth rate of the Indian car market. He said the platform for all sort of cars - compact to luxury- has been excellent and GM believes that the increase of its products will be the only way to take hold the market. There was a talk of investment to the tune of 0million for manufacturing LCVs in India.
The Halaol facility of GM, where Beat and Spark are manufactured, will be uplifted to take care of these productions. Surprisingly, the queen of Bollywood music world, Asha Bonsle will be the ambassador for the proposed music awards anchored by GM.
The new products will be on the lines of Tata"s alliance with SAIC or Maruti"s Elco. He further declared that GM would launch 5 electric version cars by another two years with the showcase of Volt electric version slated for 2011.
However, the launch of global Volt is scheduled for December 2010. The company"s ultimate motif is to secure the market leader slot in India at any means. The next priority, he said, is to tap the potential of car market in tier-II and tier-III cities focusing mini cars and hatchbacks.
GM has opened 10 showrooms in these cities and the response has been promising and the dealers too tasted a 100 percent sale growth. The Talegaon unit of GM will start producing powertrain engines in another ten days with the initial capacity of 16,000 annual units and further expansion being on the cards.
