The Sanand plant of Gujarat is a completely Nano production plant and it was inaugurated on June 2nd 2010. Speaking on the occasion, Ratan Tata, the bossman of Tata group said: "We belong to Gujarat. We had gone out and now we have come back here."

The CM of Gujarat sent a sms welcoming Ratan Tata to Gujarat when the latter announced that they were leaving West Bengal. Tata Motors initially started establishing a plant in Singur, but faced severe opposition from Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee in acquiring lands.

Praising Modi's help on the occasion, Ratan Tata mentioned that when they were searching a home for Nano, they wanted to be sure that they could move in peace and harmony with the locals and Modi rightly guaranteed the Tata whatever they needed. He also said that, "It was not just our project, we felt that it was of Gujarat government and Tatas"

The Sanand plant in Gujarat is built at a cost of Rs. 2000 crore and it has the capacity to produce 2.5 lakh units per annum. The plant's pilot commercial production of Nano has already begun and there are also plans to scale the production upto 5 lakh units annually.
