By Denise Baptiste

JK Tyres, one of India's leading tyre makers, has announced a probably increase in prices of its products by 4-5percent with effect from September 2010.

According to JK Tyre Director (Marketing) A.S Mehta stated that natural rubber costs have been going up and the company have stated in the past too that they need to increase our product prices to offset it. By the first week of September JK Tyres may increase another 4-5 per cent increase in tyre prices.

He also added that, in July, the company had increased its tyre prices by 3 percent and by this time, the price hike will be across all segments of tyres.

In the market right now, the car tyre costs about Rs 2,000 approximately, while that of commercial vehicle is roughly Rs 12,000. In May 2010, tyre manufacturers were on the urge of hiking prices up to 25 percent to offset rising input costs which synchronizes with the global brand.

In India, the hike is particularly remarkable in the north, due to the flourishing automotive sector and with automakers struggling to meet demands for their cars. Rubber(RS 4) prices have gone up by Rs. 1128 per 100 kg within June-July period. The Rubber price(per 100 kg) in June was Rs. 17,087 and in July it was Rs. 18,215.
